Good news: POGO is pleased to report that Representative Edolphus Towns (D-NY), Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has introduced a bill to combat the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) newfound Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) exemptions.
The Towns bill, H.R. 6086, mirrors bipartisan legislation introduced earlier this month in the Senate by Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Charles Grassley (R-IA), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Ted Kaufman (D-DE).
Other legislation to address this unnecessary FOIA exemption has been introduced by Reps. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Ron Paul (R-TX).
Mark your calendars for September 23, when the House Committee on Financial Services will hold a hearing to discuss the SEC FOIA exemptions.
