Dan Friedman at the National Journal reports today that U.S. Special Counsel Scott Bloch responded yesterday to a letter from House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) calling for his resignation. In the letter, Bloch writes:
I was appointed by the President and confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate for a five-year term. That term ends on January 5, 2009. As you may already be aware, the President very recently declined an invitation to dismiss me under OSC's authorizing statute, at least according to news accounts. I will note your concerns and will take them under advisement as I consider the remaining few months of my term.
A full copy of the letter is available here.

Okay, the first item on the 100 days agenda will be find a new OSC chief, and get his nomination through the Senate ASAP.

By law, Bloch can remain as Special Counsel until the Senate confiirms the next Special Counsel or up to one year past the end of his term. So he could well be with us for another year or more.

Dear Readers, July 30, 2008
It appears forthright that Mr. Bloch has responded to Congressman Waxman in a timely and expeditious manner. As all well know that no one from the US Executive Branch has responded to our US Congressional Representatives with the more fully and complete expected and requested Testimony and many and/or all subpoenaes are always and routinely ignored and not adheared to and in the manner as expected and requested.
Again, as all should well know on July 25, 2008 our Us Congressional Judiciary held a 5+ hour non-stop hearing in efforts to save our US Constitution ( and Democracy)from further and/or seemingly complete disintigration. Seemingly, as all may well know and/or surmise that the last remaining hope to save our US Constitution and Democracy and allow the truth and/or thruthful endeavors to be heard is to allow for a immediate Impeachment exercise and implementation to proceed.
I guess the best hope is that to continue to hope before January 2009 that we have something to allow for a more proper and forthright application to the endeavors of Faith, Hope and Charity to have some reasonable application towards our great Country and future.
Thank you and all for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Axel

Please take note of the last sentence in Mr Bloch's July 29, 2008 letter: "I will note your concerns and will take them under advisement as I consider the remaining few months of my term." My did he not write "the remaining few months I will remain in this job" ? What happens if the President (after January 20, 2009) invites the invitation for him to resign, and to be replaced by an interim OSC chief? Does that mean Mr Bloch will resign, or will he come back with another letter response?
