POGO would like to congratulate reporter Alan Cohn and Connecticut TV station WNTH for winning a Peabody Award for their excellent investigations into production problems at Sikorksy Aircraft. Cohn and WTNH are excellent examples of what good, hard-hitting investigative reporting can do. Here's more from a WTNH news release:
WTNH is proud to receive the George Foster Peabody Award for its investigation into production problems with Blackhawk Helicopters. WTNH is one of only four local television stations to win a 2006 Peabody Award. The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, June 4, 2007, at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

Investigative reporter, Alan Cohn, has been pursuing the story of ‘Defective Parts on Blackhawk Helicopters’ for the past three years. The Team-8 investigation uncovered issues with the quality control systems at Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft. The story led to a shake-up in the company’s management and an investigation by the Defense Department Inspector General. Investigative Reporter, Cohn, was assisted on this project by Photojournalists Kelvin Higgins, Thomas Parent, George DeYounge and George Roelofsen, who edited the stories. Chief Photographer, Keith Porter, and Assistant News Director, Virginia Fisher, were also instrumental in producing the series and in supervising the photography and writing of the reports.
More on Cohn and WTNH's investigations can be found here and here.
