7. Withdraw 20,000 troops from Europe—with support from the Hutchison-Tester Commission bill
What pops into your mind when you think of Western Europe—guns and troops, or pastries and arts museums? If you said the latter, you’re right there with other taxpayers, who are losing their enthusiasm for subsidizing European countries’ defense. Withdrawing troops would save the U.S. money, it can be done with support from the Hutchison-Tester Commission bill, which will ensure thoughtful, unbiased criteria for base closings overseas.
