1. Reduce spending on federal service contractors by 15 percent
Estimated Cost Savings: $372.54 billion
Since 2000, the U.S. government has spent nearly a trillion dollars on service contracting—not including the Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD has spent an additional $1.5 trillion in the same period. POGO thinks this is simply Bad Business. In our first-of-its kind study, we found that contractors are billing the federal government almost twice what it could cost a federal employee to do the same work. This practice is burning a giant hole in taxpayers’ pockets.
