The Hill reports that former Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne has been selected as the new president and CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). POGO always likes to highlight these examples that demonstrate that moving from public service to the private sector doesn't have to raise ethical concerns.
Unlike his predecessor Gale Norton, who took a position as the general counsel for Royal Dutch Shell's exploration and production business after leaving the Department, Mr. Kempthorne is moving to an industry that he was not recently in charge of overseeing.
The Department of Justice investigated whether Ms. Norton used her position at Interior to benefit her new employers. The Center for Public Integrity reported in July that that the investigation concluded without any charges.
