Whistleblower Film Series Begins Tonight
The first installment of the Whistleblower Film Series happens at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, October 1st, at the Capitol Visitor's Center. If you are in the D.C. area, we would be honored if you could make it!
Tonight's film will be "The Pentagon Wars," a dark comedy about the development of the M2 Bradley fighting vehicle. After the screening, our own Peter Stockton will moderate a discussion with U.S. Air Force Colonel James Burton, whose experience at the Pentagon and subsequent book, The Pentagon Wars, served as the basis for the movie.
The story goes something like this: in an effort to curtail excessive spending by the Pentagon, Congress appoints an outsider, USAF Lieutenant Colonel James Burton (Cary Elwes) to observe the testing of several new weapons in development, including the Bradley. Burton quickly becomes disillusioned by the "real" way the development process works in an atmosphere of corruption and bureaucratic inefficiency. You may view the trailer here. Tonight's film is brought to you by the Government Accountability Project and is free and open to the public.
The Whistleblower Film Series is part of a landmark, nine-year legislative effort to restore credible whistleblower rights for government employees and contractors. Part of the 9th annual DC Labor FilmFest, the series showcases films that explore this vital issue at a critical time. Presented by the DC Labor FilmFest and supporters of whistleblower protection legislation, including the Project On Government Oversight, Public Citizen, the Government Accountability Project, the National Whistleblowers Center, Union of Concerned Scientists, Bernabei & Wachtel, the Fund for Constitutional Government, Clifford & Garde LLP, Katz, Marshall & Banks, the Ridenhour Prizes.
