POGO is delighted to learn that the NW&M Monitor will be reporting in its weekly publication that in reconciling the House and Senate versions of the economic stimulus bill, funds have been removed for the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) weapons program. It may have been the result of grassroots pressure, or the participation of congressional staffers with seasoned oversight skills, or the leadership's recognition that $1 billion for the NNSA was not a wise investment. POGO had several reasons for opposing these funds.
As I write this, Congress is presenting its Agreement on Economic Stimulus Legislation, so we haven't seen anything in writing yet. We'll keep you posted as we learn more.
