For those who love to say the Darleen Druyun scandal is “old news,” we say, tune in tomorrow to the Senate Armed Services Airland Subcommittee hearing on the $615 million global settlement between Boeing and the Justice Department. The settlement stems in large part from the Druyun/Boeing tanker leasing scandal. Boeing’s troubles have caused it to report a 2nd quarter financial loss of $160 million, despite the booming defense contracting sector.
Also still unresolved is what lurks beneath the sections of the Department of Defense Inspector General report on the Druyun/Boeing tanker scandal that were blacked out by the White House. High-level officials may have been protected by the black marker (for example, former Air Force Secretary Roche). As we write, however, Freedom of Information Act requests and appeals to requests are making their way through the Pentagon. For anyone who has the unredacted version of the IG report – it’s not too late to let democracy ring. Send it here.
